This performance is from a bootleg video of the July 17th, 2003 live stage show of Wigfield in what I think was New York City. In lieu of a book tour for Wigfield, the trio settled on adapting the book into a live stage performance. A slide show of character pictures is shown on a large screen while they read their parts in character so the audience knows what the characters are supposed to look like. Some characters from the book were omitted and Russell Hokes (Stephen Colbert), now proud of add playwright to his list of careers, fills in the audience periodically as to what is happening in the plot.
The camera work is a bit inconsistent (it is a bootleg afterall, since sadly they didn't release an official version) so it can be a bit frustrating when the focus wanders (sometimes completely off the frame). There are a lot of nice close-ups and the sound is good though, so it's definitely watchable. It's a real joy to be able to see anything from the live performances. |
